Boudoir has become a popular style of photography in the past couple of years, but with the positives have come some negative associations as well. It is not uncommon for people to be hesitant in shooting boudoir because of the idea of certain content that crosses the line of sensuality to a more sexier version of this particular photography style. There is a massive spectrum of what we consider “boudoir” and there are not very many distinctive names to say which part of the spectrum we are talking about.

These images make a great statement piece for homes on larger scaled prints on canvas which is what my clients tend to prefer. I often discuss with them what they’re looking to shoot and have them look through samples to get a feel for what they would like best during their session.

I did a boudoir session with a client that was in the process of publishing a book and becoming a published writer, so naturally the set included books to showcase her love for writing. The tone, however, was a bit more elaborate on who she was personality wise as well. I made sure to pose the client with different staging and props to also capture her free spirit and femininity.

Boudoir photography, with a spectrum of styles, is often meant to achieve a certain look for their subjects and give them an experience that is both fun and uplifting. Clients always feel beautiful and sensual after a boudoir shoot and carry themselves with empowered energy and confidence. While this feeling of adventure and happiness is a wonderful approach and what other photographers focus on, in my studio I like to take that goal a step further and have it last forever.

The inspiration for both the session and headpiece were based of a drawing drawn by a young girl while hiding in the bomb shelter. The focus revolves around a young girl that brings hope of everything flourishing again after a time of darkness. The headpiece, a floral arch, represents the spirit while the flowers and birds on the arch represent Spring.

We used body paint to create the illusion of an exterior that was marbled like a sculpture with the person’s spirit coming through. Floral pieces were used to represent growth blooming through the cracks of the “sculpture” and to contrast the hard shell with a softer look.
